Free lesson, before the pitch
Learn it first: how to check any software yourself, in five questions, before you trust it with client data.
Software is a promise about where your work lives and who else can touch it. Ask every company these five, and write down the answers: 1. Where does my data live? 2. What happens if you close, or double the price? 3. Can I get my data out in a standard file? 4. Who built it, and do they do my job? 5. What does it depend on, and will you show me the list?
Made-up example. A made-up clinic owner asked two vendors. The first said “our secure cloud,” “you can request an export,” and had no list. The second said “on your computer,” “it is already in Excel,” and handed over a page like this one. She did not need to be technical to see the difference.
Try it: a made-up app keeps notes on its own servers, exports only to its own file type, and lists nothing it depends on. Which questions does it fail? — show the answer, and why
Three for certain: 1, 3 and 5. Your data lives on someone else’s computer, you cannot open it without them, and you cannot judge what might break it. Questions 2 and 4 you would still have to ask. This is Chase’s own buying checklist, not a published standard.

Thank you. DRAGEN stands on the work of thousands of people who built these tools, most of them free and open to anyone. Every link goes to the maker. None are ads or affiliate links, and none of these companies sponsor DRAGEN.
44 of the 58 are free, or free with Windows, or have a free plan. The package itself needs nothing you pay anyone else for, beyond the Windows and Office most offices already have. Every card says which is which.

Why it matters.
Most software is rented from someone else’s computer. That is fine for a playlist. For a child’s records, ask the five questions. Here is how a typical cloud tool usually answers, and how DRAGEN does.
