Free lesson, before the pitch
Learn it first: how to check any software yourself, in five questions, before you trust it with client data.
Software is a promise about where your work lives and who else can touch it. Ask every company these five, and write down the answers: 1. Where does my data live? 2. What happens if you close, or double the price? 3. Can I get my data out in a standard file? 4. Who built it, and do they do my job? 5. What does it depend on, and will you show me the list?
Made-up example. A made-up clinic owner asked two vendors. The first said “our secure cloud,” “you can request an export,” and had no list. The second said “on your computer,” “it is already in Excel,” and handed over a page like this one. She did not need to be technical to see the difference.
Try it: a made-up app keeps notes on its own servers, exports only to its own file type, and lists nothing it depends on. Which questions does it fail? — show the answer, and why
Three for certain: 1, 3 and 5. Your data lives on someone else’s computer, you cannot open it without them, and you cannot judge what might break it. Questions 2 and 4 you would still have to ask. This is Chase’s own buying checklist, not a published standard.

Section 2 · 58 softwares
Behind the development.
You pay for one simple thing: DRAGEN, the software that ties all of this together and does the paperwork. Everything below it is free, has a free plan, or is already on your PC. This page shows the free tools DRAGEN leads you to, and the work behind the one thing you buy.
Counted on September 22, 2026, from DRAGEN’s own code history.
Thank you. DRAGEN stands on the work of thousands of people who built these tools, most of them free and open to anyone. Every link goes to the maker. None are ads or affiliate links, and none of these companies sponsor DRAGEN.
44 of the 58 are free, or free with Windows, or have a free plan. The package itself needs nothing you pay anyone else for, beyond the Windows and Office most offices already have. Every card says which is which.
The other 14, and who pays. Chase pays for the tools that build and sell DRAGEN, now and later. You never need them.
| Software | Who pays | Will you ever need it? |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 10 or 11 | You, and it came with your PC | Yes. DRAGEN runs on Windows. A new PC comes with it. |
| Microsoft Word | You, if you have Microsoft 365 | Only for reports as Word or PDF files. Free programs open them too. |
| Microsoft Excel | You, if you have Microsoft 365 | No. Free spreadsheet programs open the workbooks. |
| Claude and Codex | You, only if you connect them | No. Optional, forever. |
| Even Realities G2 and R1 | You, only if you want the glasses | No. Optional, forever. |
| Claude Code and OpenRouter | Chase | Never. They build DRAGEN in the workshop. |
| GoDaddy | Chase | Never. It holds the dragen.cloud name. |
| Stripe | Chase, a small fee per sale | Never. You pay only DRAGEN’s price. |
| The privacy gate and the USB install pack | Included with DRAGEN | They come with it. Any USB drive works. |
| The routing file | Chase’s workshop | Never. |
Future costs, plainly.
- DRAGEN: the price you choose on the Pricing page, once or monthly. Updates are optional, at 20% of the licence a year.
- Required, and already yours: Windows, and the internet and email you already have.
- Only if you choose: Microsoft 365 for Word and PDF reports, your own Claude or Codex key, the G2 glasses and R1 ring.
- Never yours: every tool Chase uses to build and sell DRAGEN. Those costs are his.

Layer 2 · 5 softwares
Local AI: the AI that lives on your computer.
It drafts and sorts right on your PC. Client words never leave it. Ollama keeps itself up to date in the background. DRAGEN reads your memory and your graphics card during setup and installs the strongest model your computer can run. Nothing to choose. Click DRAGENmodel any time you add memory or a card, and it moves up a tier.
Ollama →
Runs AI models on your own computer. No internet needed.

The AI model itself: one file, about 5 GB, downloaded once.
Why DRAGEN uses it. Small enough for an ordinary graphics card, strong enough to sort and draft.
Why it lasts. A file on your disk does not change unless you change it.
The DRAGEN privacy gate
A checker inside DRAGEN that reads every task before it goes anywhere.
Why DRAGEN uses it. If it sees a name or a health detail, that work stays on your PC. It never relaxes.
Why it lasts. It is DRAGEN’s own code, so no outside company’s policy change can loosen it.
Qwen3, by Alibaba →
A second open AI model, also run through Ollama.
Why DRAGEN uses it. The backup when the main local model is not available.
Why it lasts. Two local models means one can step in for the other.
Behind DRAGEN FreeNVIDIA graphics drivers →
The software that lets a graphics card do the heavy math.
Why DRAGEN uses it. If your PC has an NVIDIA card, the local AI runs much faster on it.
Why it lasts. Optional. Without the card, the local AI still runs, only slower.
Examples
What different computers can run.
A bigger model writes better drafts, but it needs more memory. Here is what each kind of computer can run on its own, with no cloud.
| Computer | Memory and graphics card | The model it can run | What that means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Office PC, no graphics card | 16 GB memory | Llama 3.1 8B, on the processor | Works. Drafts are slower, which is fine for DRAGEN’s scheduled daily runs. |
| Chase’s own PC | 16 GB memory, 8 GB NVIDIA card (RTX 2060 SUPER) | Llama 3.1 8B or Qwen3 8B, on the card | Fast. The setup DRAGEN is built and tested on. |
| Gaming or creator PC | 32 GB memory, 12 to 16 GB NVIDIA card | Qwen3 14B | Stronger drafts, still fast. |
| Workstation | 64 GB memory, 24 GB NVIDIA card | Qwen3 32B | The strongest model that fits on one card. |
| Below 16 GB memory | 8 GB | Not supported | DRAGEN needs 16 GB. DRAGENaudit alone runs on any Windows PC, because it uses no AI. |
Download sizes from Ollama’s library: 8B about 5 GB, 14B about 9 GB, 32B about 20 GB. Mac is not supported yet. Full PC specs →

Section 3 · the five questions, answered
Why it matters.
Most software is rented from someone else’s computer. That is fine for a playlist. For a child’s records, ask the five questions. Here is how a typical cloud tool usually answers, and how DRAGEN does.
| The question | Typical cloud software | DRAGEN |
|---|---|---|
| Where does my data live? | On the company’s servers. | On your own computer. |
| What if the company closes, or doubles the price? | You can lose access, or pay the new price. | Own it once. It keeps running on your PC. |
| Can I get my data out? | Through an export the company controls. | It is already in Excel, Word and plain files. |
| Who built it? | Usually engineers, advised by clinicians. | A practicing BCBA, who uses it in his own work. |
| What does it depend on? | Rarely listed. | Every piece, named on this page. |
| Does an outside AI read client words? | Many AI tools send your text to an AI company. | Never. Client words stay with the local AI. |
“Typical” means the usual way cloud software works, not any one company. Ask your own vendor; the good ones will answer plainly.
Built on the bliss point of AI
If they die, DRAGEN keeps flying.
AI is the best and cheapest it has ever been, and that may not last. DRAGEN was built with the strongest AI of this moment, then made to run without any of it.
1
Your copy is yours
Own it once and it runs on your PC. No outside company can switch it off.
2
The AI is a file on your disk
If every AI company changed its prices tomorrow, your local model would not notice.
3
Claude and Codex are optional
Built with them, runs without them. Even if they were banned by law, DRAGENsoftwares still work.
4
Plain files, readable forever
Word, Excel and plain-text settings. Any computer opens them, with or without DRAGEN.
5
Every piece is named
Nothing hidden: if a part ever needs replacing, everyone can see which one.
6

Keep your licence key and the install pack on a USB drive. What your PC needs →
Honest limits: DRAGENmail needs the internet and Microsoft’s Outlook website, and a computer can die. Both are covered above.
All of this, in one download.
Try it free for a day, or ask Chase how it fits your work.
