Learn it first: how to decide what to automate, by hand.
List every task you did more than once this week. Next to each, write whether you did it the same way both times. Anything you did the same way twice is a candidate for software; anything that needed judgment each time is not, and should not be sold to you as if it were. Buy for the first list only.
Made-up example. A made-up BCBA’s week: billing check (same way every time), report first draft (same skeleton every time), a difficult family call (different every time). Two candidates, one not.

No. It came up twice but was not done the same way twice; it is judgment. The paperwork around that decision can be drafted; the decision cannot. Software that claims otherwise is the thing this page exists to help you avoid.
