How Private Equity Took Over the ABA Field

Follow one ownership question

Separate a dated ownership statement from a decision and its possible consequences.

  1. Who, and when?
  2. Which decision?
  3. What does the evidence show?
Analogy: A map shows possible roads. To explain a journey, you still need to know which route was taken. An owner's name starts the question; it does not finish the explanation.

How to use this

  1. Choose one organization, period and decision. Record the dated source; distinguish an announcement from confirmed completion.
  2. Ask who could make or change that decision. Mark unknown authority as unknown.
  3. Describe the observed change separately from your explanation. Ask what other evidence could change your view.

Picture the idea

Analogy: A map shows possible roads. To explain a journey, you still need to know which route was taken. An owner's name starts the question; it does not finish the explanation.

Made-up example

Made-up example: A reader finds an old acquisition announcement and later notices a schedule change. The announcement alone does not establish present ownership or who caused the change. The reader asks who controlled the scheduling decision at that time.

Your printable worksheet

Write general notes without names or health details. Notes are not sent or saved. Print to keep them.

Try it

Does a past acquisition announcement establish that an investor caused a later service interruption?

Show the answer and why

No. Establish the relevant ownership period, decision authority, actual decision and other possible explanations.

Why: An ownership statement and an interruption are different pieces of information. Their connection needs evidence.
